Bird Of Paradise: Ìyá Mi

Bird Of Paradise: Ìyá Mi (my mother) is a deconstruction of Sola’s memories through sound, colour and installation that she directed and composed, staged at the University of Brighton as part of a university project.

The installation is an ode to her mother, the piece is centred around cultural identity defined by both her living experiences and her perception of her mother. Through the conceptual eyes of a fusion of two cultures and the experiences such created. Sola uses analogue technology to create a higher sense of sensitivity creating depth and tone, producing a raw story. The installation consists of two repeating clips and commanding sound which work along each other to cross and combine her western identity and Nigerian heritage.
